Lord Harwood had a difficult life filled with tragic events. As a child, he received a large inheritance but little else; his father was a notorious gambler, leaving the family in upheaval when he died.
As the new owner, Harwood tried to restore his family’s name and fortune, only to find himself thwarted by those with envious hearts. There was Lord Augustus, a well-connected but embittered landowner in the north who took every opportunity to seize suspicion of Harwood’s business and tried to undermine him.
Then there was Countess Silva, a ruthless magistrate from a rival county. Silva often financed Lord Harwood’s activities heavily, legally or not, in an effort to expand his own power and wealth.
Despite the difficulties, however, Lord Harwood managed to hold his own. He was determined and knowledgeable, which helped him get out of tight spots. He kept a level head, leaned on a few loyal friends, and even made contact with his enemies.
For Lord Harwood there was always a lesson to be learned from each of his tragedies. He eventually found success, mostly through severe odds, but it was never achieved without considerable effort and sacrifice. Lord Harwood’s formidable setbacks had finally shaped him into the noble and respected man he is today.
